Principle Investigator
Dan Ohtan Wang
ohtan[at]riken.jp
Ohtan Wang received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1998 and 2000, respectively. In 2004, she was awarded PhD degree from University of Southern California. Knowing both molecular biology and neuroscience, her ultimate goal is to find bridges to link genes and brain plasticity.
Senior researcher
Mizuta Kotaro
kotaro.mizuta[at]a.riken.jp
Mizuta is an electrophysiologist. And he has been using in vivo 2-photon calcium imaging to study neuronal activity during virtual reality task for almost 5 years. By combining these two techniques, he tries to understand the functions of specific subset of neurons underlining spatial cognitive mapping, And his ultimate goal is to find a way to rescue abnormalities of those cell functions found in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly in Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Post-docs
Broix Loic
loic.broix[at]riken.jp
loic.broix[at]gmail.com
"I am interested in understanding the coordination between organelle transport and local translation in neurons and how interactions between organelles is regulated at membrane contact sites," says Loic.
Sefan Asamitsu
sefan.asamitsu[at]riken.jp
With his excellent experiences in biochemistry, Sefan has decided to apply his knowledge to study more about the brain function. Thus, his research theme is mainly involved in conducting epitranscriptomic and tranlatomic analysis of neurons.
Sarayut Phasuk
sarayut.phasuk[at]riken.jp
Sarayut have been working on behavioral study in animals for almost 9 years. He decided to join Ohtan lab to pursue his ultimate goal. In which, he wants to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying such behavioral changes in mice.

Rohini Roy

royrohini5393[at]gmail.com
"I have always been fascinated about 'Neuron' as a compartmentalized cell and how being finite in numbers in the brain, it can achieve infinite connectivity through synapse formation", says Rohini. While during the tenure of her doctoral course, she mainly studied the role of RNA epitranscriptomics in different stages of neuronal development and synaptic plasticity. Talking about her future research plan, Rohini said that she would like to understand neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric diseases using genetically engineered brain organoids from patients' induced pluripotent stem cells.
Hou Shengqun
Hou Shengqun is interesting in learning and memory consolidation. He is now focusing on synaptic plasticity and setting up the "easy-to-use" synapse labeling method combined with a high throughput-out imaging system. His ultimate goal is to establish a novel tool for studying the regulation of target factors over synaptic plasticity.
Momoe Sukegawa
sukegawa.momoe.27n[at]st.kyoto-u.ac.jp
sukegawa.m.8346713[at]gmail.com
Momoe is very interested in investigating animal behaviors. She performed several behavioral paradigms in order to understand the mice behaviors which can be linked to changes in the brain plasticity. She also focuses on observing the effects of external environments on individual responses in the mice.
Zhou Erdong
zhouerdong709[at]gmail.com
Zhou Erdong has decided to donate her PhD life for understanding the impacts of impaired m6A on translatomics decoding in the hippocampus and cortex.
Kangwei Zheng
I am very interested in the impact of neuroplasticity on learning and memory. I am still an undergraduate student. It’s a great honor to be a part of Ohtan-lab, says Kangwei.
